PacketStream provides a user-friendly GUI for tcpdump, a command-line network monitoring tool included in Mac OS X. By pointing and clicking, you can monitor data as it streams over your network--especially useful for checking web traffic, network bottlenecks, or even suspicious network activity. PacketStream offers a simple way to configure and use the Mac's network monitoring tools, far easier than typing in cryptic commands in Terminal.
PacketStream compared to Terminal and Unix-based programs:
Simple to use: Set a couple of user preferences, click a button, and go.
Save network data to a file for later analysis.
Monitor traffic on specific network ports.
Thorough, searchable user documentation via the "Help" menu.
"This is quite an improvement...Good work overall!"--VersionTracker user
To install PacketStream, download the latest version. It can be installed anywhere on your machine. The download is a 30-day demo; you can purchase a license to use the program past the 30-day trial period. Mac OS X 10.5 is the minimum supported platform.
PacketStream 2.5 is a free upgrade to users with a valid serial number from version 1.x.
Dock icon now changes to indicate that network scan is running.
Now uses system sounds to indicate when network scan starts and stops.
Can now copy text from the main data display.
Fixed bug in printing engine; now prints correct number of copies.
Fixed bug in serial number registration; now correctly calculates days in demo period.
