I've released version 2.3 of Stringscan, my grep-like tool for macOS and Windows. This version features some minor UI and installation refinements, and finally presents fully native Mac and Windows help via the Sphinx documentation system--a full-fledged Apple Help book for the Mac and a CHM file for Windows. It's a small update, but I feel these are good improvements, and lay the foundation for further refinements down the road.Tue, 18 Jan 2022
I've released version 2.2 of Stringscan, my text search tool for macOS and Windows. This release includes further refinements to the installation and upgrade process.
I haven't been 100% happy with the current setup of the upgrade mechanism, which is a hand-rolled Tcl library that provides functionality roughly equivalent to the Sparkle project on macOS and its complementary project on Windows, Winsparkle. I briefly considered actually adding these libraries to my app, but they don't play very well with my programming setup, so I opted to do some further tweaking to my own update mechanism. I'm pleased with the update.
